Do We Understand His Precepts?

In Psalm 119:120 David wrote: I understand more than the ancients, because I keep Your precepts. That is a bold statement, but do we know what he was talking about?

Kay Arthur used to teach a Precepts Bible study. But I never stopped to consider what precepts were. Let’s take a look in Strong’s Concordance.

Precepts is Strong’s #6490 And it is defined as appointed, i.e. a mandate (of God; plural only, collectively, for the Law):—commandment, precept, statute.

In Hebrew, the word Precepts looks like this:

Precepts

Reading from right to left, the letters are:

Pey 80 = New Governmental Order.  Means: Mouth, to Speak, Open or Beginning.

Qof 100 = Election of God’s chosen ones, set apart as holy. Means: Holiness, Consecrated, Divide, sun on horizon, Back of the Head, Make a Complete Circle, End of a Cycle, Final, Behind, Dome

Vav  6 =  Man.  Means: Nail or Hook, to Secure, Pin together, Connect -Yeshua

Dallet  4 =  Earth or creation.  Means: Door, Gate, Impoverished man, to come from indicates a pathway, a place of decision, or an entrance to life or death.

A closed Mem 600= Means: Hidden Truth

Precepts: are (Pey) words spoken by God to (Qof) His chosen ones who are (Vav) connected to Him through Yeshua .  The words are about (Pey) His governmental order for (Dallet) the entire earth.  They reveal an open door to (Closed Mem) Hidden Truth which will lead to (Dallet) Life or Death depending on the decision His chosen ones make.

Commandments and statutes are also considered to be precepts. All of these are instructions concerning how the Kingdom of God works and how to flourish in His kingdom.

Now, let’s look again at David’s statement: Psalm 119:120 I understand more than the ancients, because I keep Your precepts. The ancients were men of great wisdom, yet David says that he understands more than the ancients because he not only knows God’s precepts, His commandments, and statutes, he KEEPS them. When we put God’s word into practice, we gain a wisdom not found by head knowledge alone.

Here are a few other verses David wrote in the Psalms.

Psalm 119:63 I am a companion of all them that fear You, and of them that keep Your precepts.

Psalm 119:87 They almost made an end of me on earth, but I did not forsake Your precepts.

Psalm 103:17-18 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear Him, and His righteousness unto children’s children; To such as keep His covenant, and to those that remember His commandments to do them. (Commandments is used here with the same meaning as precepts.) Notice too, those who receive the blessings of God, are those who ‘remember’ and ‘do them.’

Are you beginning to see that the Commandments, Statutes, Testimonies, Precepts, –Laws of God, did not come from a harsh dictator? They are instead, from a loving Father who gave us instruction that will keep us safe, healthy, in right relationship with Him and others. And, instead of throwing all of these out with the next garbage pick up, Yeshua expanded them even more to include the need for the proper heart attitude behind them. Love had to be added to obedience.

We still have at least two more words to cover connected with God’s laws. My hope is that you are gaining understanding to encourage you in the benefits of following God’s word. There is a huge harvest before us with people coming in who have never known the truth of His word. We need to learn for ourselves and for them so we can disciple them in love and truth.

Shalom my friends. God’s plans for us are good. His thoughts for us are of peace and not of evil, to give us a future and a hope.. (Jeremiah 29:11paraphrased) ♥
