Are you having a difficult time sorting out all the details of what is happening in our world? Has the storm of events and media put you in a place of not knowing what is true or what you need to do? Are you getting frustrated because you can’t find anyone with bottom line truth you can hang on to? Well God gave us solutions to these dilemmas in one answer.
Isaiah 45:22: Look to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.
Hebrews 12:2-3 Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Just think of Him Who endured from sinners such grievous opposition and bitter hostility against Himself [reckon up and consider it all in comparison with your trials], so that you may not grow weary or exhausted, losing heart and relaxing and fainting in your minds. In Matthew 14:22-33, we find the story of a storm and an opportunity for faith. Let’s take a look:
22 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. 23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. 24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. 26 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.
Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. 23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. 24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”
28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”
29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
33 Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”
Had Peter kept his eyes on Jesus instead of looking at the stormy sea, he would have continued to walk on water and not sink.
Our challenge today is the same as Peter’s. The only way we will remain stable in the storms that are raging in our world is to keep our eyes on Jesus.
The Bible is full of descriptions about Jesus but one often overlooked and full of treasure is found in Song of Solomon 5:10-16. Several years ago, Holy Spirit led me on a deep study of these seven verses. Just below the words on the page, I found wonderful nuggets of truth about our Bridegroom King Jesus hidden in the original Hebrew text.
During the Covid quarantine, I was prompted to pull out my study notes and put them in book form. “Keep Your Eyes on Jesus” is now available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle.
In these seven verses you will discover reasons to keep your eyes on Jesus. You will fall in love with Him all over again when you realize all He is, all He’s done, and continues to do in us and for us.
Also included in each chapter are journal notes from the secret place–His words to each of us.
There is a feast to be had and my prayer is that you will taste and see that He is good, regardless of our circumstances. His plans for us are good and He is working behind the scenes to see us all safely to the other side of the storms we are facing today.
May you be blessed to read this book, meditate on Who we live in and Who lives in us. May faith be birthed to remain calm, trusting in the Creator of all to see us through.
