SUMMARY OF HEBREW UNDERSTANDING FOR PSALM 91

91:1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

To DWELL is to move in permanently – trusting in God and obeying Him. When we do, we will experience the activation of His Holy Spirit hand of power, consuming with His fire all that destroys or tries to invade or keep us from His house.
To dwell in the SECRET PLACE is to live in the midst of God’s heart, trusting fully in His Word that covers us with His covenant promises of protection, because He loves us and is head over all.

The secret place belongs to the MOST HIGH. This is not your average landlord. We are permanently under the watch care of the Supreme God who is Sovereign over ALL. We are under His instruction, His protection and His enabling right hand of power. Under His rule we are connected with heaven bringing life to earth.

To ABIDE, sounds like a repeat of to dwell, but we discovered that it promises even more. It promises that He will teach you and me how to overcome our enemies by His power, and how to keep them from invading our lives. We will be supernaturally trained for battle.

And there is more…..
Psalm 91:1 also says that we will be UNDER THE SHADOW of the Almighty. To be under the shadow means we will be in humility and righteousness, under the blood of Messiah, with His authority as our covering and His instruction for our guide. This is much more than a beach umbrella.

He is not only the Most High God, He is the ALMIGHTY. When we abide under the shadow of the Almighty, we again have the Holy Spirit fire of God watching over us to consume our enemies at the door, with His right hand of power. This shadow provides security and provision unmatched by anything this world has to offer.

91:2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

What we SAY, releases God’s strength and power. It births a new beginning from our hidden relationship with Him. It transforms the circumstances of our testing, based on what we declare. What we say, reveals who or what we believe to be the Most Important and worthy of our obedience.

LORD—The Right hand of God’s power is completing something through Revelation and He wants us to pay attention. The Revelation is coming through the Nail or Hook that connects us from earth to heaven – Yeshua. — God is revealing His power through Yeshua and He wants us to realize that it is Yeshua’s Work, His Deed Done, that secured us to heaven. The ultimate Covenant maker and keeper is Yeshua Himself

And, when we say the LORD is our REFUGE, we are saying He is our protector who separates us from the enemy. He holds us in His heart, gives us the support we need and we receive revelation from the Father’s heart so we can see clearly.

When we say that the LORD is our FORTRESS, we are saying, He is our Righteousness. It is Yeshua who went to the cross to connect us with heaven. He is the Door that gave us entrance. He became the impoverished man, by taking on our sin, so that we could become rich and inheritors of His kingdom.

When we say ELOHIM is our God, we are saying we believe He is the Supreme God of all, our Teacher, Instructor, and Revelator. In His right hand is Power and Hidden Truth for every area of our lives.
To TRUST then, is to make the Choice to set up permanent residence in Him within His Fence of Truth, knowing He will be faithful to His word.

91:3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence.

SURELY is based on the fact that David already knew God’s faithfulness. There was not a doubt in his mind that God was going to act on his behalf. God redeemed David over and over from many trials. He had a record of victory. Our walk with Him builds faith in us as well.

Therefore, SURELY means that God Anointed David with His Hand. No matter what the circumstance, David was assured that God’s Right hand of Power would protect him.

The word DELIVER revealed Holy Spirit. He is our ultimate Teacher and all that He teaches, leads us to righteousness and away from every evil thing. He teaches us His righteous response, leading to life. He Urges us Forward by God’s written and rhema word.

So the Secret Place is not only a place of protection, but a place of learning and equipping.

Now the plans of the enemy started to become clear. In this verse we began to uncover his tactics.

SNARE: The setting of a new governmental order through the spoken word. These words create a new beginning and fence us in to separate us, cut us off or protect us.

How often the enemy snares us with words spoken that bring offense or make us question our identity or God’s identity and we find ourselves separated from those we love and from God. His words put us under his government.

A FOWLER: is something or someone negative that divides us with a powerful hand and keeps us in a place of fire – anger, pain, anxiety, etc.

NOISOME: The letter Hey begins this word. It not only means Revelation in a good sense, but like the picture of the man with the uplifted hands…in a negative sense the enemy is jumping up and down with arms waving – “HEY, you are going the wrong way. Let me show you some ‘truth.’ Hey—look at me!” If we look and listen to his ranting, we are Hooked and Nailed into his domain instead of the Lord’s.

We discovered our greatest pest.

PESTILENCE: How often the enemy enters the Door of our Home when we are already feeling weary or down on ourselves or upset with someone else and he Speaks judgment, unbelief, or stirs strife that causes us to feel Insufficient and question if God really is in charge. Those emotions bring division in our relationship with God and those we love most.

91:4 He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

COVER: When we lean upon God, look to Him to help us, and surrender our ideas of what should be, His covers us in His heart.
Now that is not only comforting, it is ultimate protection and peace.

FEATHERS: He covers us with His strength and power. We become one with Him, in His House, part of His family, who is Head over all things.
WINGS: When we Surrender our Life, He Anoints us, Redeems us and gives us His Life, enabling us to do the works of Yeshua.

TRUST means to find refuge within His character and Word, to Lean Upon and find Support in His Heart for us, fully believing that His Grace will support us and whatever we need will be Revealed.

TRUTH: When we dwell in the Secret Place, God, the Ultimate Leader Births us through every Trial and Test because of His Covenant of love with us. Truth is revealed in humility out of a hidden relationship with God. His Covenant word is faithful and does not change.

SHIELD: His shield of Truth is Righteousness that stands against every curse of the enemy. It Restores Life in every circumstance with Revelation that comes from the Holy Spirit Life in us.
In other words His shield of truth renews our mind, will and emotions with His word and stirs us to make Him and His word the focus, raising us to life and putting our faith into action.

His BUCKLER of Truth is something we can Lean on for Support. It is a Fence that Connects us to God and Separates us from the enemy. His truth encircles us as the Head over all things, turning our Insufficiency to complete provision.

Through these revelations, we discovered that when we surrender ourselves to live permanently in the Secret Place, we reap the benefits of Psalm 91:4. We are comforted, protected, strengthened, empowered, supported, restored to life, given revelation of truth that bolsters our faith and moves us into action, knowing we have ALL that we need to do His will.

Psalm 91: 5-6 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day, 6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

AFRAID: When we dwell in Him, we are not Afraid, because God, the Supreme Head over all, extends His Right Hand of Power in our behalf.
But, when we are not dwelling in Him we are afraid because the things we are facing seem Bigger and more Powerful than us. It gets in our Head where Human Reasoning causes us to feel Insufficient.
TERROR comes with Spoken Words, threatening Separation and lack of Protection and tempting us to feel helpless, like an Impoverished man.
NIGHT: The enemy always comes to Goad us, leading us away from the light and Strength of God’s Right hand of Power. He wants to put us in the dark.

ARROW: Arrows are words spoken—shot like arrows, that Fence us in Separating us from the truth, from Righteousness. Rather than fostering Humility, they stir us to respond in kind.

FLIES: The enemy loves to show off, waving threats in our face, trying to nail us to his fearful ways and secure us under his government and words are one of his main tools.

DAY: When the words come from someone we value can cause us to think: “They may be seeing from God’s perspective. They may have Holy Spirit information, and are speaking to re-Connect us with the Hidden Truth that we have somehow missed.”

This is deception in it’s highest form, because it speaks to our soul (mind, will and emotions—it touches how we feel about ourselves, God and others.)

PESTILENCE: The enemy walks right through our Door and speaks as if he is the Head of the house. If we listen, we feel judged and proven Insufficient and inadequate. Those emotions cause us to withdraw bringing division from those we love most, starting with God Himself.
If we aren’t eating daily from God’s word and receiving His truth as our identity and lifestyle, we’ve stepped out of the Secret Place and opened the door for the enemy’s visit. He doesn’t even have to knock. The door is standing wide open and he can come and go as he wills. He cannot come into the Secret Place because darkness cannot abide in the LIGHT.

WALKS: We are to be led by the revelation of God’s Word and surrender in obedience to Him. But the enemy uses the Word as a Goad to shame and humiliate or he twists the word. If we listen to him, we often surrender to his ploys and he Covers us…puts us in bondage.

DARKNESS: The enemy always portrays himself as a Powerful Leader. He attacks by Speaking his words. Portraying himself as an Authority, he Goads us and sometimes even uses God’s word to attack us, blinding us to the Father’s love.

DESTRUCTION: Because we are God’s chosen ones, Set Apart to represent Him, in the time that He brings Judgment on the wicked, He will Surround us and Divide us out for safety in His House. He will be our Dwelling Place.

WASTE: The Fire of God to consume His enemies, to Secure them, and bring them to the Gate or Door

NOONDAY: God exercises His Righteousness in pursuing the enemy and calling him to Attention to His Word. He makes it clear that He is the Head and puts an end to Human Reasoning that lacks Obedience.

Psalm 91:7-8 A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.
8 Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked.

These two verses show the culmination of what God accomplishes, when we trust in the Lord and permanently move into who we are IN Him.

A THOUSAND, can be a definite number, but it can also refer to just a large number or an extended family or clan. Often times it is our extended family members or our peers who the enemy uses to lob attacks on us with their words.

God is saying, if we will trust Him and willingly obey what He tells us to do He will restore order. God will speak in His authority, bringing those who have contended with us to a place of humility, helping them to see that they are impoverished men.

Then again, ‘TEN THOUSAND,’ is not necessarily a definite number, but countless numbers of people will fall at our right hand. Not only will our peers and family be humbled, but also others, some who may not even know us but have picked up rumors or other people’s offenses against us.

Wherever scripture indicates the ‘RIGHT HAND,’ it is referring to God’s supernatural power and strength vs. our own power (left hand). In this case we can say that those who have been goading us with their words, will end up humbled in God’s right hand of power. God’s heart is not to kill them but to reach out in compassion.

2 Peter 3:9 says: “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

As they are in God’s right hand, they will be unable to take action or retaliate against us because God will use His fiery zeal to hold them in check. God does this for our benefit but also for theirs. It keeps them from entering into more sin and judgment.

When the battle is completed, we will see the result of God’s powerful hand that took action on our enemies.

To ‘BEHOLD’ in verse 8 means that we will see life restored to God’s house through the judgment of God’s choosing, and we will have a front row seat to see what takes place in the lives of those who chose to follow the enemy.

The ability to truly see comes from our Head, God. Our own head is often skewed with human reasoning. When we see through His eyes, we receive revelation of His power at work in our lives.

We will see the destruction of the false ‘authority’ who was goading us with his words and actions and God will reveal His hidden truth. The lies will be uncovered. We will see the ultimate victory over evil and restitution made.

The WICKED are those who have goaded us with their lies and evil deeds trying to draw us into their camp with human reasoning and logic.

Psalm 91:9-10 Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place (habitation).
No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling

Because we MADE -partnered with the Zeal of God to Destroy our Enemies we found the Hidden Truth of Securing ourselves in Yeshua. In Him, The Self-Existent, Eternal God covers us with His mighty Hand revealing the Grace He gives to those in covenant with Him.

Thus, when we say God is our REFUGE, we are saying He is our refuge, our hope and shelter and we are hidden from all chaos. We are Separated, Protected and held in love and Grace that comes from the very Heart of God.

Thus, when we decide to make the MOST HIGH our dwelling place, we are permanently under the watch care of the Supreme God who is Sovereign over ALL. We are under His Instruction, His protecting and enabling Right Hand of power, and we are connected through Yeshua to heaven bringing Life to earth.

In the midst of Chaos, He is our hidden place of security. He enables us to See and understand what is going on, but we are Secure in the Life of Yeshua.

When we talked about Evil, we remembered Ephesians 6:12 “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Any evil that comes against us is coming from the enemy of our souls and not the flesh and blood people we see involved. The people have partnered with him, but he is the instigator.

So EVIL is the enemy, the one who thinks he is Most Important and he thinks he can See and Understand everything, when in comparison to our God, he is Insufficient. BUT….he can’t overtake (cause us to fall) because God, the Most Important Leader is protecting us with His Strength and Power and preserving our Lives.

We discovered that a PLAGUE isn’t just a disease but any Action taken to Retaliate that would Be Seen. So here is another wonderful promise. If we make the LORD our dwelling place, the enemy cannot retaliate against us and end our lives or humiliate us with his deeds against us. While we may experience attacks, he cannot overtake us when we are hidden in Him.

We are set apart as Holy unto God, and because of this, the Insufficient enemy who is pretending to be the Chief and Most Important person cannot Circle Round Behind us or our family to cause harm. God, the Chief Head, is there protecting us, and all of His Family, because we are His House.

Because we have made Him the One we give our attention and Him the One we follow, He gives us Revelation and discernment of the enemy so we don’t fall prey to his Instructions or Urging.

Psalm 91:11 For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.

In these two verses we discover some treasure about angels we may not have heard before. They are intricately involved in our lives to do the Father’s bidding and to keep us on His path.

ANGELS: His angels move by His Instruction completely Surrendered in Humility to the Power and Authority of God’s hand.

GIVE CHARGE: He sends them to draw us to Himself and Secure us in the awareness of His presence, Revealing His will.

TO KEEP YOU: He encircles us with Fire to Consume all His enemies. As we Humble ourselves, we are Hidden in Him, who is the Head over all principalities and powers.

IN ALL YOUR WAYS: Wherever we go, in all that we do, He is the Door we go through. As we remain Surrendered in the palm of His Hand, our Insufficiency turns to strength.

Psalm 91:12 In their (the angels) hands, they shall bear. you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

IN THEIR HANDS: The angels will Bend Down, protecting us in their hands, Speaking God’s words to us, reminding us of His Governmental Order…His ways.

SHALL BEAR YOU UP: His angels will also take Action, lifting us up by His strength to Consume the Enemies who are out to Destroy His plan for our lives.

LEST YOU DASH: They do things to keep us from taking Action in Retaliation by Speaking on our own.

YOUR FOOT: When we move out on our own to retaliate, we Walk in pride, setting ourselves Above another, Goading them and seeking to Control them with our own Words or tale-bearing .

AGAINST A STONE: The angels keep us from using our own strength to hit against God Himself and His desire to build His Family. Our actions can thwart receiving Revelation and grace to Restore relationships bringing Life. The angels rescue us from this kind of behavior.

Psalm 91:13. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and the adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

This verse, like so many others we’ve dug into, has some surprising truths. We find that it truly isn’t about lions or snakes or dragons, but about things we encounter everyday. Let’s take a look at what we discovered:

THOU SHALT TREAD: When we are hidden in Him, we can boldly come out the Door of Insufficiency–where we are trying to figure things out on our own. We can come under the Anointing of His Hand and Surrendered to His will, subdue all in our path.

THE LION: Again, hidden in Him, God will Consume our enemies who seek to Separate us or Control us with their loud intimidating words.

THE ADDER: This is one kind of enemy who claim to Govern and have Ownership of our lives. They try to frighten us with their Actions.

THE YOUNG LION: Another enemy are the young ones who appease and placate us and Goad us to Surrender to their Power. They try to entice us with Human Reasoning that goes against Obedience to God’s Word.

THE DRAGON: Here we are facing the enemy himself. He tries to convince us of his power by showing us the Outcome of those He has already overcome and taken Ownership, causing them to Surrender to his Hand.

But as those hidden in Him, we can….
TRAMPLE UNDER FOOT: All of these foes.  They are Insufficient under the rule of the Most High God, who resists the proud and comes to the assistance of His own who have Hidden Relationship with Him.

Psalm 91:14 Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.

Because we have SET OUR LOVE -completely separated ourselves to God, completely cutting off the enemy influence in our lives and living as one of God’s chosen ones…

God will DELIVER– exercise His authority and declare that we are under new government, His Authority, and He will judge the enemy who is twisting truth.

I WILL SET HIM ON HIGH – God will consume our enemies and lift us up in retaliation. He will clearly establish that we are in His family.

BECAUSE HE HAS KNOWN – Because we have cooperated with Him and worked to come out the door of our Impoverished man mentality to see and understand Him and allow Him to be seen in us,

MY NAME – We have discovered the hidden truth of who He is, the ultimate victor over our enemies.

Psalm 91:15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.

HE SHALL CALL UPON ME – When we fully believe that we are His chosen ones and that He is head over all things in heaven and earth and under the earth, seen and unseen, and we call upon Him as our Leader, full of strength and power,…

AND I WILL ANSWER HIM – God will see and understand. He will act in our behalf, setting a hedge of protection around us.

I WILL BE WITH HIM – God, will not only see our need but experience it with us. He will go with us through it, all the while hiding us from ultimate destruction.

I WILL DELIVER HIM – I God, will declare that you are Mine and will use My authority to pull you to Myself, out of every trouble.

IN TROUBLE – When it looks like the enemy has put his hook in you, God, will show him that He is the Head, and will cut off the enemy and separate us to Himself.

I WILL HONOR HIM – God, will anoint us, redeeming us and our household and setting us free to walk through the door He has opened before us.

Psalm 91:16 With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.

WITH LONG: I, God, the Head over all things, will anoint you as you surrender to Me

LIFE:..with My right hand of power. (In that anointing will be ) complete Holy Spirit restoration and life, revealing hidden truth I have stored up for you.

WILL SATISFY: I, God, will consume all your enemies that have brought division in your homes and bring all of you understanding and ability to see clearly.

WILL SHOW HIM: And I, God, will bring unity through this revelation by revealing to you…

MY SALVATION: …My right hand of power who will complete your victory over evil, consuming all your enemies. He will restore Holy Spirit filled life where you will see and understand My will and have a complete revelation of My grace.

May each of you find your permanent dwelling in the Secret Place and discover how much He truly loves you.
