Have you ever come to a scripture you’ve read numerous times and found yourself stopping on a word that demands you to dig deeper? This happens often in my life.
This morning I was reading Psalm 42 and came to verse 5:
Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him
For the help of His COUNTENANCE.
Countenance? That’s how someone looks, right?
Grabbing my Strong’s Concordance, I looked up countenance and here is what I found:
Countenance #6440 from #6437 – to Turn, to Face, to Look, to Regard, to Behold.
And here is the Hebrew spelling:
Pey/Fey 80 = New Governmental Order. Means: Mouth, to Speak, Open or Beginning.
Nun 50 = Restoration, Holy Spirit, Jubilee. Means: Life or Action
Hey 5 = Grace. Means: Revelation – 5 is the number of Torah, Behold, Give Attention, unfold or look upon – (if it comes at the end of a word: the meaning is based on the letter before)
From this, we can say that Countenance means When I turn and Face You, I am Restored to Life and Action by the Holy Spirit. I receive Grace and Revelation for a new Beginning.
Another familiar scripture where this word is used is in Numbers 6:24-26
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
26 The Lord lift up His COUNTENANCE upon you,
And give you peace.” ’
Do you need to be encouraged? To have a new perspective on life?
2 Corinthians 3:18 So all of us, with faces unveiled, see as in a mirror the glory of the Lord; and we are being changed into his very image, from one degree of glory to the next, by Adonai the Spirit. (the Spirit of the LORD)
Take time to turn and look at Him, face to face today. Let His Spirit give you a new beginning.
Shalom ♥
