Verse 9 of Psalm 91 begins with the word ‘because.’ This is the first of three uses of the word because in the verses that finish out this psalm. The first because is spoken by David. The last two will be spoken by God. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Here is the verse in its entirety:
Because you have made the LORD,
who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your habitation, Psalm 91:9 KJV
David is speaking from his own rich relationship with Abba. He entices us with his testimony of God’s faithfulness. In essence, he is telling us, “There is no one like our God. Let me tell you about Him.”
Through this next section, we see behind the lines shouts of praise. Let’s taste and see what he wants us to know.
“Because you have MADE…” As you read this, stop and consider. How do we ‘make’ the LORD our dwelling place, our habitation? If He is our ‘home,’ He will be the place we return to find security. He will be the One we run to celebrate our victories and bandage us from brutal defeats. He will be the One who knows our secrets, our dreams, and our struggles. We not feel hindered in any way to share our hearts with Him.
Are you considering? David often added the word ‘Selah,’ to the verses he wrote. It means to pause and consider what you just read or sang.
Let’s look at this word MADE. It is Strong’s #7760 and it looks like this: It means to appoint, to bring, to call, to put, to change, to charge, to commit, to consider, to convey, to determine, to put, to set, or to place.
Here are the letters:
= Shin 300 = Victory of good over evil, Holy Spirit. Means: Teeth, Fire, the Fire or zeal of God to consume all His enemies, Devour, Destroy, Something Sharp.
= Vav 6 = Man. Means: Nail or Hook, to Secure, Pin together, Connect -Yeshua
= closed Mem 600 Means: Hidden Truth
MADE: Because you have partnered with the Zeal of God to Destroy your Enemies (Shin) you have and found the Hidden Truth (Closed Mem) of Securing yourself in Yeshua (Vav).
Made the LORD:
3068 = Yehovah (yeh-ho-vaw’); (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God: The self-Existent Eternal God
= Yod 10 = The outcome or completion of something. Means: Hand, Right Arm, Power, Right hand of God’s power, a Deed Done, To Work, to Cover, Allow, Hollow, Open Hand
= Hey 5 = Grace. Means: Revelation – 5 is the number of Torah, Behold, Give Attention
= Vav 6 = Man. Means: Nail or Hook, to Secure, Pin together, Connect -Yeshua
= Hey 5 = Grace. Means: Revelation – 5 is the number of Torah, Behold, Give Attention – (at the end of a word: comes from letter before)
Remember, whenever you see the word lord all in capitals, as you do in this scripture, it is a substitute for God’s most important title, . Whenever this title is used, one must also realize that the Covenant Keeping God is on the scene. This is the name He used when making covenant and when He refers to His covenant.
LORD: The Self-Existent, Eternal God Covers you with His mighty Hand (Yod) revealing the Grace (Hey) He gives to those who are Secured in Yeshua (Vav) and who Pay Attention to Him (Hey).
Who is my REFUGE, is the next phrase. Let’s see what REFUGE means:
The primitive root for Refuge is Strong’s #2620 and it looks like this:
and the definition is to flee for protection, to confide in, to have hope, to trust.
Here is the break down in Hebrew:
Chet 8 = New Beginnings. Means: Fence, Gate, Tent wall to Separate, Protect, Cut off. Torah
Samekh 60 = Pride, Conceit, Earthly. Picture: A Tree propped up by a piece of wood. Means: To Lean Upon, a Prop or Aid, Hold, Assist or Support – the heart of God
Hey 5 = Grace. Means: Revelation – 5 is the number of Torah, Behold, Give Attention – (at the end of a word: comes from letter before)
Thus, when we say the LORD is our REFUGE, we are saying He is our protector who separates us from the enemy (Chet). He holds us in His heart, gives us the support we need (Samekh) and we receive revelation from the Father’s heart so we can see clearly(Hey).
Next, David addresses those who make the MOST HIGH their dwelling place. Let’s look at our Hebrew definition for the Most High:
Most High is Strong’s #5945 and it looks like this: It is defined as an elevation, lofty; as title, the Supreme or Uppermost.
This is fairly self-explanatory, but when we see the letters separately we discover something more:
= Ayin 70= Completion of time. Means: Eye, to See, Understand, Experience, or to be Seen, Window of the soul-good or bad (made of a Zayin and Yod—Word and Spirit)
= Lamed 30 = Blood of Messiah, Dedication to a task. Means: Staff, Goad or Stick, to Teach or Instruct, Authority, to Control, Urge Forward, a Tongue
=Yod 10 = The outcome or completion of something. Means: Hand, Right Arm, Power, Right hand of God’s power, a Deed Done, To Work, to Cover, Allow, Hollow, Open Hand
= Vav 6 = Man. Means: Nail or Hook, to Secure, Pin together, Connect -Yeshua
= Final Nun 700 Means: Life or Action
Thus, when we decide to make the MOST HIGH our dwelling place, we are permanently under the watch care of the Supreme God who is Sovereign over ALL, who Sees and Knows us by the Spirit (Ayin). We are under His Instruction (Lamed), His protecting and enabling Right Hand of power (Yod), and we are connected through Yeshua (Vav) to heaven bringing Life to earth (Final Nun).
Okay, let’s wrap it up. What are the benefits of this HABITATION?
Habitation or dwelling place is Strong’s #4583 but the primitive root is #5772 and it looks like this: It is defined as to dwell together, cohabitation, the duty of marriage. So this has to do with those who are the Bride of Yeshua.
= Ayin 70= Completion of time. Means: Eye, to See, Understand, Experience, or to be Seen, Window of the soul-good or bad (made of a Zayin and Yod—Word and Spirit)
= Vav 6 = Man. Means: Nail or Hook, to Secure, Pin together, Connect -Yeshua
Nun 50 = Restoration, Holy Spirit, Jubilee. Means: Life or Action
Hey 5 = Grace. Means: Revelation – 5 is the number of Torah, Behold, Give Attention – (at the end of a word: comes from letter before)
The HABITATION is a place where we are seen and understood by the Spirit (Ayin). We are secured in our relationship with Yeshua (Vav) for a Life of Restoration and Jubilee (Nun). And lastly, Habitation is a place where we receive Revelation about Life and take Action on it.
What a wonderful place to live!!
~~~Journal Notes~~~
On November 14, 2006, when I was spending my morning hours with the Lord, I heard,
“There is a place of quiet rest, near to the heart of God. A place where sin cannot possess, near to the heart of God.” Those are lyrics to a song I used to hear on a radio broadcast when I was a child.
Then He went on, “It is a place of quiet-inside-soul rest in Me. It is like under-water freedom from the weight of life. Buoyed in My hands carried in Me. There’s a habitation for you. One that I’ve held in reserve, waiting for you to come. Waiting for you to come. How I long to sit with you there and share My heart and My secrets. Truly sin cannot possess there. The enemy cannot enter in.
Dwells is not a stopping place or a place to run to in times of danger, but a place to live. The dwelling place is IN ME. In Me, you live and move and have your being. Outside of this place are chaos, confusion, fear, and dread.
You can live here all of the time. You never have to leave. It’s a choice to remain in Me. There will be times when the circumstances of life will pull you aside from abiding here, but I will teach you the pathway of return. I will show you the way home to this place of quiet rest of soul.
Your spirit never leaves this place and is constantly reminding you of your need to return. Over time you will respond more quickly to His call. Come away My beloved. Come away.”
We will see further benefits in making Him our habitation in the next verse.
Until next time…may you find yourself IN HIM.
Shalom ♥
