If you are a Christian, you most likely celebrated Resurrection Day this past weekend. Unlike any other god, our God lives. He was crucified and buried for three days in a tomb, taking the punishment for the sins of the world. But on the first day of the week, those who went to the tomb found it empty. Paul later wrote this account:
1 Corinthians 15:3-8 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.
Every other god does not live. In fact, Psalm 115:2-7 says, Why should the nations say, “Where, now, is their God?” But our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases. Their idols are silver and gold, The work of man’s hands.
They have mouths, but they cannot speak; They have eyes, but they cannot see; They have ears, but they cannot hear; They have noses, but they cannot smell; They have hands, but they cannot feel; They have feet, but they cannot walk; They cannot make a sound with their throat.”
And in Romans 1:20-23 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
In 1 Kings18:21-39, Elijah faced the prophets of Baal. There was a standoff to demonstrate who was the true and living God. 21 And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” 24 Then you call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD; and the God who answers by fire, He is God.” Read it for yourselves. The prophets of Baal cried out to their god for hours without a response. But when Elijah had the altar rebuilt as God prescribed, he called on the Lord once:
37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that You are the LORD God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again.”
38 Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. 39 Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, “The LORD, He is God! The LORD, He is God!”
In the New Testament, Paul wrote to Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:10 …we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.
Before Yeshua’s crucifixion, in Matthew 26:63-64, the High priest questioned Yeshua and He responded: … “I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!” 64 Jesus said to him, “It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
Our God not only lives, But He also hears us, He speaks to us, He fights for us, and so much more.
He hears us: 1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
He speaks to us: John 10:27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
He fights for us: Joshua 23:9-10 For the Lord has driven out from before you great and strong nations; but as for you, no one has been able to stand against you to this day. 10 One man of you shall chase a thousand, for the Lord your God is He who fights for you, as He promised you.
Is the god you worship the living God? Where do you spend most of your time, energy and money? Whatever, or whoever that is, is your God. As you focus this week on the blessings of knowing and having a covenant relationship with the Living God, Yeshua HaMashiach, spend some time with Holy Spirit and ask Him to show you who or what is receiving your worship.
If you need to repent, do so. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Yeshua went to the cross for our sins. The price has been paid. Receive His forgiveness and join the four living creatures in worship:
8 The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying:
“Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God Almighty,
Who was and is and is to come!”
9 Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:
11 “You are worthy, O Lord,
To receive glory and honor and power;
For You created all things,
And by Your will they exist and were created.”
Revelation 4:8-11
In our world of so many stresses and uncertainties, we are blessed to have the Living God, Creator, and Sustainer of all life as our God.
There is no other God: “Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: ‘I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God. (Isaiah 44:6) All praise to the Great I Am!!
