“Surely He shall deliver you….”
“Treasures from the Secret Place”
Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.
David, who wrote this wonderful psalm, knew all about being delivered. In I Samuel 17 is the story of David taking on the giant Goliath. When Saul said to him,
“You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a boy, and he has been a fighting man from his youth.”
David answered, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.”
(I Samuel 17:33-37 NIV)
He faced Goliath fully believing that God would deliver, and He did.
Later David wrote concerning Saul, who in his jealousy pursued David for years to kill him:
2 Samuel 22:1-4
“Then David spoke to the LORD the words of this song, on the day when the LORD had delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. And he said:
“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
The God of my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation,
My stronghold and my refuge;
My Savior, You save me from violence.
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies.”
While we are uncertain about the date that Psalm 91 was written, we do know that David wrote from experience. He knew God to be his Deliverer. David not only knew God but also had God’s word concerning his own destiny.
Samuel anointed David, while he was still a boy, to be king. David knew God to be faithful to His word; therefore, he knew he would live through the encounter with Goliath. Time in the secret place, experiences with God in the fields, and meditation on God’s word equipped him in faith.
“Surely He shall deliver you…”
With this history of God’s faithfulness verse three begin with the word, “surely”.
<3588> primitive root
• assured [-ly]
There isn’t any doubt in this statement, no second guessing of whether God will come through or not. David is saying, when we stop to consider Who it is watching over us, surely or most certainly we can count on His deliverance.
SURELY 3588 a primitive particle indicating causal relations of all kinds: KJV – assured [-ly], + but, certainly, doubtless, even, nevertheless, now, rightly, seeing, since, surely, then, therefore, truly.
= Kaf 20 = Anointing of the hand on the head, Redemption. Means: To Bend Down, Surrender, Palm of Hand, Wing—Good works with our hands in Yeshua
= Yod 10 = The outcome, the completion of something. Means: Hand, Right Arm, Power – Right hand of God’s power, a Deed Done, to Work, to Cover, Allow, Hollow, Open Hand, also refers to the Holy Spirit as it always hangs in the air overseeing
SURELY is based on the fact that David already knew God’s faithfulness. There was not a doubt in his mind that God was going to act on his behalf. God redeemed David over and over from many trials. He had a record of victory.
Therefore, SURELY means that God Anointed David with His Hand. No matter what the circumstance, David was assured that God’s Right hand of Power would protect him.
<5337> primitive root
• to snatch away
• without fail pluck
This doesn’t deviate from our present day understanding of the word deliver. So let’s go on to see what God is saying to us from Hebrew.
= Nun 50= Restoration, Holy Spirit, Jubilee. Means: Life
= Tzade 90 = Humility. Means: Righteousness, Fishhook, to Pull Toward, Desire, Trouble, Harvest
= Lamed 30 = Blood of Messiah, Dedication to a task. Means: Staff, Goad or Stick, to Teach or Instruct, Authority, to Control, Urge Forward, a Tongue
DELIVER: Yeshua lives in us by His Holy Spirit. He is our ultimate Teacher and all that He teaches, leads us to righteousness and away from every evil thing. He teaches us His righteous response leading to life. He Urges us Forward by His word.
So the Secret Place is not only a place of protection, but a place of learning and equipping.
Fear not for I am with you. When you walk through the fire of trials and testing you will not be burned, if you keep your eyes on Me and off the enemy activity. He isn’t worth a second of your consideration, not one second.
If there are things you need to know about him, in order to do My will, I will show you. Don’t focus on his activity. Focus on My ability, My love, and My faithfulness.
I brought Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego through the fiery furnace. I brought Daniel out of the lion’s den and delivered Paul so many times he couldn’t count them.
In this world, you will have tribulation, but I have overcome the world. Look to Me and you will see ALL that you will ever need and more to face every trial.
You are called to be a light in the darkness. You can’t shine with My Light if you are immersed in fear and worry.
There is victory ahead for those who will walk with Me. Faith is key. Ask Me for My faith and I will change your darkness to light with one word from My mouth.
Time with Me is more important than your next breath. Come away. Leave the world and it’s struggles behind and be with Me. You won’t be disappointed.
In our shaking, uncertain world we do have a place and One who can deliver us. While our circumstances may not change, we can live free of fear, free of anger, bitterness, hatred, and we can be daily delivered into His Kingdom of Light and Love and Power. In Him we can live FREE.
Next time we will look at exactly what it means to be delivered from the snare of the fowler and from deadly pestilence. Sounds like fun, right? One clue…you won’t need bug spray. 🙂
