Thou Shalt Tread Upon the Lion and Adder… Psalm 91:13

Stomp on a snake

How many of you deal with lions or adders (cobras), or dragons on a daily basis?  This verse sounds like something for a Steven Spielberg film.  Yet, in reality, we all do face these enemies every day.

When we pick up our tools and start digging we unmask them and the way they operate.

Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Psalm 91:13 KJV

Let’s go for it.

We will start with, THOU SHALT TREAD which is Strong’s #1869.  It looks like this: Thou shalt tread It is pronounced, ‘die rak.’  It is a verb meaning to tread, to bend, to walk on, or to trample.

Look at these letters.  They are all similar in shape but each of them have different meanings.

THE ADDER OR THE COBRA is next on the list.  It is from Strong’s #6620 and it looks like this: AdderIt is pronounced ‘peth then.’  It means to twist.

Here are the letters:

THE ADDER is an enemy who claims to Govern (Pey) and have Ownership (Tav) of our lives (Nun). They try to frighten us with their Actions (Nun).

Okay, now we move from snakes to YOUNG LIONS.

The term, Young lions comes from Strong’s #3715.  And it comes from the primitive root #3722.  #3715 means a village covered in by walls or a young lion covered with a mane.

The primitive root, #3722 looks like this: young lion and it is pronounced ‘kaw-far.’  It means to cover or condone, to placate or cancel, to appease, to forgive, be merciful, pardon, purge, or reconcile.  (Sounds friendly–but is it?)

THE  DRAGON: Here we are facing the enemy himself.  He tries to convince us of his power by showing us the Outcome (Yod) of those He has overcome and taken Ownership (Tav), causing them to Surrender to his Hand (Kaf).

TRAMPLE UNDER FOOT is a phrase from Strong’s #7429.  It looks like this: Trample Underfoot and is pronounced,  ‘raw-mass.’  It is a primitive root and it means to tread upon, to stamp, trample or tread upon.

The letters are:

The enemy loves to get us tied in knots with worry and striving.  In this holiday season that is full of so many activities and expectations, we are especially vulnerable to his ploys.  I found this in my journal notes and believe it fits not only with the scripture but with our times.

~~~Journal Notes~~~
In June 2013, I wrote this out in my journal.
This morning having just returned home from being gone a week and with family coming this weekend to visit, I hit the ground running, Lord. So much to do and so little time to accomplish it….But first I must spend some time with You.
Before writing another word, He began speaking to me.
“Be still and know that I am God. Greater things are won by stillness than this world dreams of. It is My strength that enables you and it can only be accessed by leaning on Me. I call you to rest.”
“Look up. I will give you the strategy for every move. All your running will get you nowhere, but into confusion and burnout. The enemy loves to see you run and strive and worry.”
“Lay it all down, all of it. You can’t figure it out or manipulate the pieces to fit. Only I see the finished picture and only I know the order that the pieces must be placed.”
“You must walk with Me, in Me, to see the victory I have planned. Time with Me. Time in My word, with My Spirit…this is your place of rest. This is your place of battle. Without the strategies of heaven you are a warrior swinging wildly and your foe is just beyond your reach.”
“Stop, Look, Listen. I have plans for you, plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. You must spend time with Me to receive the plans. I call you to REST.”
Then He gave me this acronym:
R—receive
E—eternal
S—strategies for
T—triumph
Felt led to blindly open my Bible.  When I did, My eyes fell on verse 30 first, but here it is in context:
Psalm 18:28-34
For You cause my lamp to be lighted and to shine; the Lord my God illumines my darkness.
29 For by You I can run through a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall.
30 As for God, His way is perfect! The word of the Lord is tested and tried; He is a shield to all those who take refuge and put their trust in Him.
31 For who is God except the Lord? Or who is the Rock save our God,
32 The God who girds me with strength and makes my way perfect?
33 He makes my feet like hinds’ feet [able to stand firmly or make progress on the dangerous heights of testing and trouble]; He sets me securely upon my high places.
34 He teaches my hands to war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.” AMP
May we take our stance IN HIM and find rest and peace and victory over every enemy of our souls today and always.  He is well able to keep us when we yield to Him.
Shalom ♥
