I love it when Holy Spirit leads Bible Study. Two weeks ago, we looked at this verse and the word highlighted was ‘trusts.’
Psalm 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
When we looked into the Hebrew spelling and its meaning, we discovered it means:
One who ‘trusts’ is giving attention to the things God reveals. He is leaning upon God and His heart for support. And God is separating him and protecting him.
3Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way.
27 Depart from evil, and do good;
Let’s take a look at the word ‘GOOD.’ It is Strong’s #2896 but the root is #2895.
And the definition of 2895 is: to be good, be pleasing, be joyful, be beneficial, be pleasant, be favorable, be happy, be right.
The word Good and Goodness have the same Strong’s numbers.
Now, let’s look at the spelling and see what we can learn. In Hebrew the word Good or Goodness is spelled like this:
And the names of the letters from right to left are Tet, Vav, and Bet. Here are the meanings of each letter:
Tet 9 = Judgment. Means: Choice, Basket, Snake, Surround or Twist
Vav 6 = Man. Pictograph: Nail or Hook. Means: Nail or Hook, to Secure, Pin together, Connect -Jesus is our Vav
Bet 2 = Divide or Division. Pictograph: A tent, house or family. Means: House/Family; God’s word, God’s dwelling place (His Temple)
The verses above mainly speak of ‘good’ men. But what does it mean when the word Good refers to God? Back to our verse in Psalm 34.
Psalm 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
In light of the meaning of the letters, we can say:
God is good. He made the choice to bring us into His family, securing us in Jesus.
Ephesians 1:4-5 says: just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will.
This scripture indicates that He chose all of us to be part of His family. But not all accept God’s invitation.
We are ‘good’ if we chose to accept God’s invitation – salvation. When we do, we become One IN Him. God sees us IN Christ and treats us with the same love and favor. We are looking to Jesus as the head of the family and honoring Him by doing what He asks us to do. We don’t look like the world of ‘me first.’ Rather, we are loving and serving and re-presenting Jesus to the world. Now, that is GOOD.
Consider what this story means when we now understand the meaning.
Now a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
19 So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. 20 You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’ ”21 And he said, “All these things I have kept from my youth.”
22 So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
23 But when he heard this, he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich. (Luke 18:18-23)
Or how about this scripture?
“…the goodness of God leads you to repentance.” Romans 2:4b
Or this one, God’s response when Moses asked God to show him His glory?
Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” Exodus 33:19
Out of all the things God could have used to show Moses His glory, He put ‘goodness’ as head over all.
Truly, we have a Good, Good Father. Let’s continue to choose to honor Him with our choice to follow Him and do His will, to love Him and those He brings into our lives. We are His sons and daughters. He has given us all things in Christ. We are truly blessed!!
Here is a song that declares His goodness:
I will post the ‘Blessed’ treasures later today or tomorrow. Shalom ♥
