His locks are bushy, and black as a raven. Song of Solomon 5:11b
What on earth of interest could be found in this description? You will be surprised.
Last time we looked at the first part of verse 11 in Song of Solomon 5: His head is as the most fine gold. This time we will look at the rest of that verse: His locks are bushy, and black as a raven.
When I read this, I think of the Afro hair of the 60’s and 70’s, but there’s more to the story. (painting by Jared Emerson)
Let’s look at the word LOCKS – Strong’s # 6977 with a primary root of #6972
קוּץ qûwts, koots; a primitive root; to clip off or to cut; to spend the harvest season:—summer, or harvest a crop.
Reading from right to left, there is a Qof, a Vav, and a Final Tzade.
Qof 100 = Election of God’s chosen ones, set apart as holy. Means: Holiness, Consecrated, Divide, sun on the horizon, Back of the Head, Make a Complete Circle, End of a Cycle, Final, Behind, Dome
Vav 6 = Man. Means: Nail or Hook, to Secure, Pin together, Connect -Yeshua
Final Tzade 900 = Humility. Picture-Fishhook. Means: Righteousness, to pull toward, Desire, Trouble, Harvest
This description of Yeshua’s hair, His LOCKS, means that: He was set apart as Holy, in Consecration to God. He Connected heaven to earth through His life as a Man in Humility and Righteousness, drawing men into the Harvest.
Now let’s look at BUSHY -Strong’s #8534 from the primary root of #8524
תָּלַל tâlal, taw-lal’; a primitive root; to pile up, i.e. elevate:—eminent.
Reading from right to left, there is a Tav and two Lameds.
Tav 400 = the Outcome of Trial and Testing. Picture: a Rough Cross. Means: Cross, Covenant, Seal, Mark, a Sign, Ownership, Finished or Complete.
Lamed 30 = Blood of Messiah, Dedication to a task. Means: Staff, Goad or Stick, to Teach or Instruct, Authority, to Control, Urge Forward, a Tongue
Lamed 30 = Blood of Messiah, Dedication to a task. Means: Staff, Goad or Stick, to Teach or Instruct, Authority, to Control, Urge Forward, a Tongue
BUSHY is a very interesting word. It holds some amazing treasure: Yeshua was a teacher. He spoke with authority urging people forward in covenant. He went so far as to spill His blood in death to seal the covenant of promise for those who would respond to His urging.
BLACK -Strong’s #7838 from primary root #7835.
שָׁחַר shâchar, shaw-khar’; a primitive root (identical with H7836 through the idea of the duskiness of early dawn); to be dim or dark (in color):—be black.
Reading from right to left, there is a Shin, a Chet, and a Resh.
Shin 300 = Victory of good over evil, Holy Spirit. Means: Teeth, Fire, the Fire of God to consume all His enemies, Devour, Destroy, Something Sharp.
Chet 8 = New Beginnings. Means: Fence, Gate, Tent wall to Separate, Protect, Cut off. Torah
Resh 200 = Insufficiency, Poverty. Picture: Head Means: Head, Chief, Beginning, Highest, Most Important, a Person, Human Reasoning vs. Obedience. (When we allow human reasoning to be our master, our head, poverty of the Spirit results.)
Usually, we associate the color black with something foreboding or evil, but here is something very different.
The word BLACK here means: Our Bridegroom King destroyed our enemies and gave us His victory of good over evil. He gave us a new beginning, separating and protecting us by giving us instructions for life (Torah). He gave us the opportunity to set aside our human reasoning and follow Him in a new beginning.
Now the last word in this verse: RAVEN – Strong’s #6158 from the primary root #6150.
עָרַב ʻârab, aw-rab’; a primitive root (rather identical with H6148 through the idea of covering with a texture); to grow dusky at sundown:—be darkened, (toward) evening.
Reading from right to left there is an Ayin, a Resh and a Bet.
Ayin 70= Completion of time. Means: Eye, to See, Understand, Experience, or to be Seen, Window of the soul-good or bad (made of a Zayin and Yod—Word and Spirit)
Resh 200 = Insufficiency, Poverty. Picture: Head Means: Head, Chief, Beginning, Highest, Most Important, a Person, Human Reasoning vs. Obedience. (When we allow human reasoning to be our master, our head, poverty of the Spirit results.)
Bet 2 = Divide or Division Means: House/Family; God’s word, God’s dwelling place (Temple)
Raven holds more real treasure. Our Bridegroom King Sees and Understands us. He comes as Head of God’s Family and is our Dwelling Place.
