We are still pushing the dust off of this phrase, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High…” Psalm 91:1a
“I’m gonna tell my Daddy!” How those words used to throw up a huge stop sign to those who harassed me as a little girl. The neighbor children knew who my Daddy was and how big he was. Most times, the confrontation was over as I turned with tears streaming, running to my house.
When I was in Israel volunteering in 2001, I purchased a spiral bound book written by Wim van der Zande, called, “Compilation of the Names, Titles, and Descriptions of God.” It was available at the King of Kings Church, but I’ve never seen it elsewhere. Over the years, it’s been a valuable resource full of treasure because it is full of Him.
Today we are going to dig into the treasure of one of His names–The Most High. In Hebrew, it is Elyon, and it is used many times in scripture.
Enemies surrounded David, when he declared this name in Psalm 83. Here are the first two and last two verses of that psalm:
Do not keep silent, O God!
Do not hold Your peace,
And do not be still, O God!
For behold, Your enemies make a tumult;
And those who hate You have lifted up their head.
Let them be confounded and dismayed forever;
Yes, let them be put to shame and perish,
That they may know that You, whose name alone is the Lord,
Are the Most High over all the earth. Psalm 83:1-2, 17-18
Who is this MOST HIGH? Let’s look at our Hebrew definition:
OT:5945Most High‘elyown (el-yone’); an elevation, i.e. (adj.) lofty; as title, the Supreme: KJV – (Most, on) high (-er, -est), upper (-most).
This is fairly self-explanatory, but when we see the letters separately we discover something more. Most High looks like this: When you read it from right to left you have Ayin, Lamed, Yod, Vav, and Final Nun. Here are what the letters mean:
Ayin 70= Completion of time. Means: Eye, to See, Understand, Experience, or to be Seen, Window of the soul-good or bad (made of a Zayin and Yod—Word and Spirit)
Lamed 30 = Blood of Messiah, Dedication to a task. Means: Staff, Goad or Stick, to Teach or Instruct, Authority, to Control, Urge Forward, a Tongue
Yod 10 = The outcome, the completion of something. Means: Hand, Right Arm, Power – Right hand of God’s power, a Deed Done, to Work, to Cover, Allow, Hollow, Open Hand, also refers to the Holy Spirit as it always hangs in the air overseeing
Vav 6 = Man. Picture: Nail or Hook. Means: to Secure, Pin together, Connect -Yeshua
Final Nun 700 Means: Life or Action
Thus, when we dwell in the secret place of the MOST HIGH, we are living under the watch care of God who sees and understands us (Ayin). We are under His instruction (Lamed), and His enabling right hand of power that covers us (Yod). We are connected with heaven (Vav) bringing life to earth (Final Nun).
In Kay Arthur’s book, “The Peace & Power of Knowing God’s Name,” she writes: “ It was Abraham, the friend of God, to whom this mighty name was first revealed in Scripture. The old patriarch, known then as Abram, had just returned from an astounding rout of four powerful armies, with 318 men of his own household …Three hundred eighteen men against four armies.”
We read the aftermath here:
Genesis 14:17-20
And the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley), after his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him.
Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. And he blessed him and said:
“Blessed be Abram of God Most High,
Possessor of heaven and earth; And blessed be God Most High,
Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.”
This “secret place” doesn’t belong to the neighborhood thug or to your mom or anyone else. It belongs to the Supreme God of the universe, who is King of all kings and Lord of all lords. If He conceals you, you can be assured that you are concealed.
He is also the embodiment of love. He once told me, “I cannot, not love you, because I am love.” For this reason, we will not experience any violation in His secret place. We will be completely loved and cared for there. It is a place of safety and complete acceptance, and we will discover to what degree as we proceed through this psalm.
Here are a couple of entries from my journal that give me great encouragement for the days we are facing right now. May you be blessed.

I saw myself at the top of a mountain and could see the sun rising. The air was crystal clear and life-giving.
I heard the Lord say, “Rejoice for the breaking of the economy and the shut down of technology. These are pathways the enemy uses to promote the enemy’s rule on the earth. Their shut down will cause people to turn to Me for help. They will realize that I am their only true source of support. What the enemy means for evil, I will turn to good.”
“Rejoice and be exceedingly glad for the economy will collapse and technology will fail, but the Son shall arise with healing in His wings and all who call upon My name will be saved. This is the greatest hour for the church.” (God’s word stands the test of time. We are now experiencing this very thing.)

“Is there any lack in Me, Beloved?”
No, Lord, there is no lack in You.
“All that I have is yours Beloved. You have access to all that I have. Draw on My account. I’ve given you My name.
I went to the cross so My presence could be multiplied in the earth through My children. All that you need to do My will is in ready supply. There is NO lack in My Kingdom.
Ask for direction and lay hold of what is ALREADY yours to do the work.”

It is time to enter the Secret Place and set up housekeeping. It is the dwelling place of the MOST HIGH God of all the earth. In Him, we do have all that we need for every circumstance–most of all we have HIM.
Let’s consider this psalm today as we close:
God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3 Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling.
Selah (Stop and carefully consider)
4 There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,
The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved;
God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.
6 The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;
He uttered His voice, the earth melted.
7 The Lord of hosts(The Lord of Angel Armies) is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge.
Selah (Stop and carefully consider) Psalm 46:1-7
“Fear not. All that is in heaven and earth are at your disposal in My name. Call upon Me and I will provide all. I am your provision. In Me, you will live and move and have your being.”
Shalom ♥
Next we will discover how we are to live in secret place of the Most High. We are to Abide.
