What is the Helmet of Salvation? Armor of God Part 6

Helmet of Salvation JPG

Here is a picture of a Roman soldier’s helmet with added Christian decoration.  As I said in the introduction, the Armor of God does not look like a soldier’s armor.  Still, you will discover that there are some similarities in the way our head is covered when we wear the Helmet of Salvation.

The helmet covers the most critical part of our anatomy–our mind.  This is where spiritual battles are either won or lost.

Joyce Meyer wrote a book entitled, “Battlefield of the Mind.”  In it, she says, “The devil is a liar.  Jesus called him the father of lies and of all that is false (John 8:44), He lies to you and me.  He tells us things about ourselves, about other people, and about circumstances that are just not true.  He knows what we like and what we don’t like.  He knows our insecurities, our weaknesses, and our fears and is willing to invest any amount of time it takes to defeat us.”

Often these lies are dropped into our minds or we may hear them internally. At other times, we may hear them spoken to us by other people, printed in the newspaper, or declared on a billboard, etc..  But, the place we process the information, is in our minds.

Before we get too far down the road, let’s look at the Hebrew meaning of this headgear.  We will begin with the Helmet.

Helmet is Strong’s #3553 –  and it looks like this: Helmet and it means to be a high rounded helmet.  But the deeper meaning is found in the letters.

Reading from right to left:

Kaf 20 = Anointing of the hand on the head, Redemption. Means: To Bend Down, Surrender, Palm of the Hand, Wing – Good works with our hand in Yeshua

Vav  6 =  Man.  Means: Nail or Hook, to Secure, Pin together, Connect -Yeshua

Bet  2 =  Divide or Division     Means: House/Family; God’s Word, God’s dwelling place (Temple)

Ayin 70= Completion of time.  Means:  Eye, to See, Understand, Experience, or to be Seen, Window of the soul-good or bad (made of a Zayin and Yod—Word and Spirit)

Thus, to wear this Helmet secures us in Yeshua(Vav), where we surrender to God’s Word (Kaf) as a part of His family (Bet), with eyes to see and understand by the Word and the Spirit (Ayin).

Alright, with the Helmet revealed, let’s look at the keys in the name of the helmet–Salvation.

Salvation is Strong’s #3444 – yĕshuw`ah  (Did you catch that? – Yeshuw ah?)  This is how it looks: Salvation and it means:  Something saved, i.e. deliverance; hence, aid, victory, prosperity:—deliverance, health, help(-ing), salvation, save, saving (health), welfare.

Sounds great, doesn’t it?  But let’s see what more the letters have to show us. Reading from right to left:

Yod 10 = The outcome or completion of something. Means: Hand, Right Arm, Power, Right hand of God’s power, a Deed Done, To Work, to Cover, Allow, Hollow, Open Hand

Shin  300 = Victory of good over evil, Holy Spirit.  Means: Teeth, Fire, the Fire of God to consume all His enemies, Devour, Destroy, Something Sharp.

Vav  6 =  Man.  Means: Nail or Hook, to Secure, Pin together, Connect -Yeshua

Ayin 70= Completion of time.  Means:  Eye, to See, Understand, Experience, or to be Seen, Window of the soul-good or bad (made of a Zayin and Yod—Word and Spirit)

Hey  5 = Grace.  Means: Revelation – 5 is the number of Torah, Behold, Give Attention – (at the end of a word: comes from letter before)

Salvation – Secures in Yeshua (Vav), with the right hand of God’s power (Yod), destroys all of our enemies (Shin).  Salvation enables us to receive revelation by grace (Hey),  and make decisions based on the ability to see and understand with the Word and the Spirit(Ayin).

It sounds like we have a huge edge on the enemy.

1 Peter 1:13-16 says, Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.’”

And in Colossians 3:2-4, Paul writes,Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.”

We are to SET our minds on things above.  I don’t know about you, but my mind is often in the earthly realm or in my imagination.

Now imagination is a wonderful thing.  However, what we imagine will ultimately draw us to the power behind it.  For example, if our minds are filled with pornography, violent video games, or the want for things, we will eventually connect with the spirits behind those things and begin to act out what we are imagining.

The enemy cannot read our minds, but he can give us thoughts.  The only way he knows whether or not we’ve taken in those thoughts is to watch our actions or listen to the words we speak.

In Romans 12: 2, it says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

The way we prove something is show evidence or demonstrate it.  The only way we can demonstrate we are wearing the Helmet of Salvation is to think in line with God’s Word and to walk out God’s word with our lives.

Again, Paul’s counsel to the Corinthians in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (KJV) is key to successfully wearing the Helmet of Salvation.

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds;)  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Wearing the Helmet of Salvation is greatly helped by our close association with Holy Spirit.  He will help us discern truth from lies, constantly remind us Who our Commander in Chief is, and bring to remembrance the things He taught us. (John 14:26).

So, when we put on our Helmet of Salvation, let’s not see it simply as another hat to cover our head, but a priceless gift to us as believers.  It is part of our equipment for living an abundant life.

Father, I thank you for this Helmet of Salvation.  I thank You for securing me in Yeshua and giving me eyes to see and understand by the Word and the Spirit.  I thank You for enabling me to have victory in the battle of my mind by the help of Holy Spirit and revelation. Abba, by Your grace I will bring my thoughts captive, surrender my thinking to Your Word, and demonstrate by my actions and my words that I am a member of Your house doing Your will. Thank You, Lord.

Tomorrow we will look at the Sword of the Spirit.  Then next week we will wrap up this excavation with some final thoughts.

See you tomorrow.

Shalom ♥
