The Lord continues to amaze me at the intricacies of His Word.  This week He led me to Psalm 57 and as I began reading, Holy Spirit had me pause on verse six. 

They have prepared a net for my steps;
My soul is bowed down;
They have dug a pit before me;
Into the midst of it they themselves have fallen. Selah

I read it over a few times and found myself stopping on two words—Net and Pit.   I knew I needed to dig into my Hebrew and discover what He wanted me to see.

NET :: Strong’s H7568 – rešeṯ  Did you see that word?  Reset?  Haven’t we heard that somewhere recently?  (Now in Hebrew it isn’t pronounced the same but the spelling is accurate.)

The KJV translates Strong’s H7568 in the following manner: net (20x), net

1. for catching animals
   1. of judgment (fig)of leaders leading people to sin as a trap for man

Let’s look at the letters from right to left:

רֶ  Resh  200 = Insufficiency, Poverty. Picture: Head Means: Head, Chief, Beginning, Highest, Most Important, a Person, Human Reasoning vs. Obedience.  (When we allow human reasoning to be our master, our head, poverty of the Spirit results.)

שֶׁ  Shin  300 = Victory of good over evil, Holy Spirit.  Means: Teeth, Fire,  God Almighty, the Fire of God to consume all His enemies, God Devour, to Destroy, Something Sharp.

ת  Tav 400 = the Outcome of Trial and Testing.  Picture: A Rough Cross.  Means: Cross, Covenant, Seal, Mark, a Sign, Ownership, Finished or Complete.

So we can say that the word NET is a trap set by human leaders desiring to lead people into sin.  They hope to destroy them and their covenant with God and mark and seal them as a sign of ownership. 

Now if that isn’t interesting enough, let’s look at the word PIT:

PIT :: Strong’s H7882 – שִׁיחָה

The KJV translates Strong’s H7882 in the following manner: pit

Well that doesn’t tell us much.  So, let’s look at the letters from right to left:

שִׁ  Shin  300 = Victory of good over evil, Holy Spirit.  Means: Teeth, Fire,  God Almighty, the Fire of God to consume all His enemies, God Devour, to Destroy, Something Sharp. (Note that if God is creating the pit, it can be seen as good – He’s destroying our enemies.  But if it is the enemy creating the pit, he can be destroying us. There are positive and negative aspects to each of the Hebrew letters.)

With that note in mind we will attribute the last three letters to the negative side.

י  Vav  6 =  Man.  Means: Nail or Hook, to hold up, to Secure, Pin together, Connect -Yeshua  Add, bind together to things that have been separated

חָ  Chet  8 = New Beginnings. Means: Fence, Gate, Tent wall to Separate, Protect, Cut off. Torah, place of refuge, quiet place, to be silent, still in security, sanctuary, inner room.

ה  Hey  5 = Grace.  Means: Revelation – 5 is the number of Torah, Behold, Give Attention, unfold or look upon – (if it comes at the end of a word: the meaning is based on the letter before)  Unfold, look upon Holy Spirit

Taking the definitions and negative interpretations of these letters we can say:

The enemy is trying to destroy or consume us.  He wants to secure us in his camp and destroy the fence of protection or boundaries of God’s Word. 

The last letter Hey is God’s alert:  He is saying Pay attention to this revelation. 

Note, however, this little bit:

They have dug a pit before me;
Into the midst of it they themselves have fallen. Selah (Stop and consider this carefully.)

What they are doing looks like utter destruction to us, but God says they will fall into their own trap and reap what they have planned for us. 

If God leads you to a verse, STOP and pray about it.  Read it over several times and see if Holy Spirit pauses you on a word or phrase and then –Selah – stop and consider. Ask Him why He stopped you there.  Let Him unveil the truth you will never see another way.  It takes time, but you will have truth and often strategy. And I’d encourage you to go back and read Psalm 57 entirely. We can pray this psalm over our lives and our country.
