The Tabernacle had a framework with walls and two rooms. But it did not have beams or any type of permanent roof. Our Creator extraordinaire also gave Moses instructions for unique curtains and coverings. We will focus on the first curtain now and the other curtain and coverings later. (Note that we do not have drawings or photographs from those who saw these first-hand. This is a ‘possibility’ only. It is from Bible Scenes on YouTube )
In Exodus 26:1-6, we have our first look at the Linen Curtain—the ceiling for the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies.
“Moreover you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine woven linen and blue, purple, and scarlet thread; with artistic designs of cherubim you shall weave them. 2 The length of each curtain shall be twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits. And every one of the curtains shall have the same measurements. 3 Five curtains shall be coupled to one another, and the other five curtains shall be coupled to one another. 4 And you shall make loops of blue yarn on the edge of the curtain on the selvedge of one set, and likewise you shall do on the outer edge of the other curtain of the second set. 5 Fifty loops you shall make in the one curtain, and fifty loops you shall make on the edge of the curtain that is on the end of the second set, that the loops may be clasped to one another. 6 And you shall make fifty clasps of gold, and couple the curtains together with the clasps, so that it may be one tabernacle.
We’ve seen these colors before in the Gate, the Door, and the Veil. But let’s look again.
White- The Righteousness of Christ and the righteousness of the saints
Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
Blue: the Yeshua Ha Mashiach –the Second Man, the Lord from heaven.
John 1:1-3, 14-18 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
1 Corinthians 15:47 The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven.
Blue was and is a distinctive color in the prayer shawl. Yahweh told them to add the blue thread to remind Israel of the heavenly commandments. Also, He wanted them to remember they were citizens of heaven.
Numbers 15:37-41 Again, the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 38 “Speak to the children of Israel: Tell them to make tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and to put a blue thread in the tassels of the corners. 39 And you shall have the tassel, that you may look upon it and remember all the commandments of the Lord and do them, and that you may not follow the harlotry to which your own heart and your own eyes are inclined, 40 and that you may remember and do all My commandments and be holy for your God. 41 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the Lord your God.”
Purple: It’s the color of royalty and kingship. Yeshua Ha Mashiach is a blending of the human (scarlet) and Yahweh (blue). He is both the Son of God and the Son of Man.
Scarlet: The color of Blood displaying the sacrifice He made for humanity. His blood was the only qualifying sacrifice for sin—Atonement.
We talked about the cherubim when we examined the Veil and the Ark. They were angelic beings with wings and were first seen, at the entrance of the Garden of Eden.
After Adam and Eve sinned– Genesis 3:24 So He (Yahweh) drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
Cherubim were symbols of protection. Let’s look at wings associated with Yahweh in scripture:
Psalm 91:4 He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
Ruth 2:12 The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.”
Psalm 61:4 I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah
Matthew 23:37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!
The word ‘Curtain’ in Hebrew is #3407 in Strong’s Concordance and it looks like this יְרִיעָה Read from right to left Hey, Ayin, Yod, Resh, Yod.
Yod-Right hand of God’s power to complete something
Resh-Chief, Most Important Person
Yod-Right hand of God’s power to complete something
Ayin-To See and Understand by the Word and the Spirit in the completion of time
Hey-Grace, Revelation we need to pay attention to
So, ‘Curtain’ in this context means (Resh) God, who is the Chief, the most Important Person is (Yod) completing His work and covering it with His right hand of power. (Ayin) He sees and understands what is needed and in the completion of time brings a (Hey) new revelation of His Grace and calls us to Pay Attention to His Word.
These ten curtains were the ceiling of the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies. When the priests looked up, they saw this holy representation of Yahweh’s care over them. They saw the colors that speak of Messiah long before they knew Who He was or how He would change their nation and the world forever.
Psalm 91 also guarantees this kind of curtain over each of us who are pursuing to follow Him with our entire lives. The Tabernacle was a mobile house of worship. He was always with them, sheltering them. He is always with us, sheltering us.
I know this post is long, but let’s close with Psalm 91—and see the benefits of living in the secret place of oneness with Him—under His wings.
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”
3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. 4 He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. 5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, 6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. 8 Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, 10 No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; 11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. 12 In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. 13 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.
14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. 15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.”
If you’d like an in-depth look at Psalm 91 with added words from Abba, my book will be a valuable asset. It is impacting many who are reading it.
We will look at the goat hair curtain in a shorter post next.
