The Lampstand/Candlestick – Part 5 – the Spirit of Wisdom

When we say the word wisdom, we usually think of information gained through our experience or someone else’s, right? While that is usually the train of thought, Biblical wisdom is so much more. Spiritual wisdom is creative. It provides a solution to a problem that has never been done before. It is completely out of the norm.

For example—Jesus said He never did anything He didn’t see Abba doing or say anything He didn’t hear Abba speaking. With that in mind, does it seem normal or logical to you to heal a blind man by putting mud in his eye? (John 9:1-7) No, it certainly does not. Or when the wedding party ran out of wine, Jesus told them to fill seven large water vessels to the brim with water and it became the best wine? (John 2:1-10) Or how about the prophet Elisha sending a man with leprosy to the Jordan river, and telling him to dip seven times to be healed? (2 Kings 5:1-14) These and many other stories sound preposterous to us. Still God’s wisdom is beyond our understanding.

Every miracle Jesus did was influenced by the Spirit of Wisdom. God’s ways are not ours, and His wisdom doesn’t look like anything in our world. This was one of Yeshua’s biggest obstacles in sharing the gospel of the Kingdom. The gospel went in opposition to all the people knew. It didn’t make sense to love your enemies. It didn’t make sense to turn the other cheek when someone was mocking or harassing you. And it didn’t make sense to give away your food or money to bless others when you had very little yourself.

The only place we can find true wisdom is from Abba. In communion with Him, we gain understanding that we will never find in a textbook or relationship with any other person. It flows from the central Branch of the Lampstand into all the other branches. All the other branches need the Spirit of Wisdom to function properly. It comes from His presence alone.

Psalm 136:5a says, – (He) God by wisdom made the heavens. There were never heavens before this time. But God, who is all-wise, knew exactly what to do and spoke them into being.

There is a difference between words of wisdom and the Spirit of Wisdom. The Spirit of Wisdom doesn’t come occasionally, it lives in us. Once we welcome Jesus to be Lord of our lives and choose to submit to His will, Holy Spirit moves in and fills us with His fullness.

John 7:38 says, “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” The Spirit of Wisdom is one of those rivers. It is a creative flow from the throne of God. While it is always present, we must learn how to access it through our relationship with Abba.

Men asked this question about Yeshua, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands?” Mark 6:2

In Luke 2:52, Luke wrote, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” Yeshua grew in wisdom. He grew in understanding on how to access wisdom. He was the Son of God but He lived among us as a human being and had to learn how to live in the Spirit the same as we do.

Wisdom offers so many benefits. This morning I was looking for scriptures on the fear of the Lord and came across a cross reference in Proverbs 2:4-5

Here is what it says, If you seek her (wisdom) as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures;  Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God.

These two verses touch on this blog about wisdom. Holy Spirit loves to surprise me with this kind of truth nugget when I am in the middle of other studies. He knows my assignment and always has the resources to help me.

So, in the verses we see, wisdom helps us to experience and understand the fear of the LORD. When we get wisdom and see that it is beyond anything we’ve ever read or heard about, our awe of God grows. Our faith and trust in Him grow. We are more likely to follow Him in other areas because we’ve seen how His word works. Without Him, our wisdom is lacking.

Right on the same pages in my Bible were two other scriptures about wisdom.

But whoever listens to me (wisdom) will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil. Proverbs 1:33

Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.  It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bonesProverbs 3:7-8

Matthew 11:28-30 is one of my favorite passages of scripture.

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

The yoke spoken of here is the Kingdom way of life. It is not about struggle and fretting but grace and trust.

The verses in Proverbs 3:13-20 are full of the benefits of wisdom.

Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding; 14 For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, And her gain than fine gold. 15 She is more precious than rubies, And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. 16 Length of days is in her right hand, In her left hand riches and honor. 17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who retain her.

19 The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding He established the heavens; 20 By His knowledge the depths were broken up, And clouds drop down the dew.

We are not limited by our education or our natural abilities. The limitless One lives in us. Through the Lampstand He poured out wisdom for those commissioned to build and maintain the Tabernacle.

Exodus 36:1 shows us. “And Bezalel and Aholiab, and every gifted artisan in whom the Lord has put wisdom and understanding, to know how to do all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, shall do according to all that the Lord has commanded.”

God never gives us a Kingdom assignment to do in our ability. Worldly knowledge will not meet the need. The Spirit of Wisdom gives us more than our ability and it is free.

When God gives us wisdom, we must trust Him and do what He tells us. It is often illogical, can be uncomfortable, and may put our relationships with others in jeopardy. Our family and friends may think we are crazy. But all God’s ways are just and true. Over time, as we walk in His wisdom, trust will be easier. We will have records of His faithfulness.

So, again the counsel is, to take time to spend time with God. Ask questions, and listen for answers. Be obedient. Get to know Him and watch the river of the Spirit of Wisdom start flowing in your life.

Next week we will look at the Spirit of Understanding. Wisdom and Understanding are paired across from one another on the Lampstand for a reason. We will discuss that next week.

Shalom ♥
