The Lampstand/Candlestick – Part 3 – Live in the Light

Today is going to take a different bent. Today we are going to look at the Lampstand in each of us has and why it is so important to choose to walk with the Light.

Until the Lampstand was added to the Holy Place, the 10’ X 10’ room was dark. But the Lampstand was not put there just to provide physical light. It represented the very presence of God. While our world is growing darker and darker, we will not be in darkness.

Let’s consider some of the facts:

James wrote in James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

God is the Father of lights and believers are His children. Yeshua said, “He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:12

Yeshua also said in Matthew 5:14, 16– “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden… 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

We cannot be hidden. His light lives in us. Light overcomes the darkness. It must flee.

God gave Moses instructions for a Lampstand with seven lamps. Exodus 25:37  In the next few posts we will discover the provisions of light God gave us to be used in the darkest of times.

In Leviticus 24:1-2 God commanded the people to bring pure oil for the lamps and Aaron, the High Priest was to be responsible to keep the lamps burning continually.

“Command the children of Israel that they bring to you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to make the lamps burn continually… Aaron shall be in charge of it from evening until morning before the Lord continually; it shall be a statute forever in your generations. He shall be in charge of the lamps on the pure gold lampstand before the Lord continually.

Aaron was to place the flames of the lamps facing the Shewbread table.

Numbers 8:2-3  “Speak to Aaron, and say to him, ‘When you arrange the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the lampstand.’ ” And Aaron did so; he arranged the lamps to face toward the front of the lampstand, as the Lord commanded Moses.

God wanted His countenance, His presence, to be constantly shining on the priests when they met for communion and worship. He was calling them and is calling us to walk in the light of His presence always. Ephesians 5:8-9

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth)

The seven lamps represented seven aspects of the Holy Spirit of God that He is imparting to us always if we choose to walk in His light

Aaron was the one who tended the lamps morning and evening. He trimmed the burnt wicks and filled the lamps with fresh oil. Yeshua, our High Priest trims our burnt wicks and fills us with fresh oil daily so we can do the will of God. We need to spend time in His presence and His Word, daily.

The lamps of the Church were lit on Pentecost. Holy Spirit fell on 120 believers and flames of fire were seen over each head. They began speaking in unknown tongues. That fire never went out. It is the power that keeps the Church alive.

The Lampstand symbolizes God’s inspiration and counsel through His Word. Yeshua is the Light of the world and He is also the Living Word of God.

Psalm 119:105 speaks of this very thing. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

1 Peter 2:5 and 9-10 speaks of we Gentiles and our calling to be living stones with Israel in the household of God. His light is key to our fulfilling His call.

5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ…9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

God’s intention is for Israel and the Church to shine as a lamp to the world.

For Zion’s sake I will not hold My peace,

And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest,

Until her righteousness goes forth as brightness,

And her salvation as a lamp that burns. Isaiah 62:1

The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light,

And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death

 Light has dawned. Matthew 4:16

Without Holy Spirit, we are powerless. There isn’t any fire or continual flow of His power.

Try as we might, we cannot create light.

Yeshua said in John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”  Abiding in Him means abiding in Holy Spirit—His Spirit.

Power tools must have electricity to work. We too must be plugged into the sevenfold Holy Spirit to do the works of God. That only occurs when we are in constant submission to His ways and His timing. Only then can we expect to have unlimited power to do His will.

We are not to live on yesterday’s oil. We need fresh pure anointing every day.

We must die to ourselves, our ways, our wants, our timing, and our strength. We must rely on God’s ability given to us through Holy Spirit.

God wants to give us new things, new strategies, and greater power. Those things come straight from His throne. It’s time for His Kingdom to be seen on all the earth and we can’t get the blueprints from anyone other than Holy Spirit. He is God, just as Yeshua is God. He carries the fullness of God’s power and anointing. And He lives in us. We are God’s lamps carrying His light to the world.

The number six is the number of man. The number one is the number of God. There are six branches connected to the central Branch. Together we are seven – perfection, fullness, and completeness.

Next time we will begin looking at each lamp one by one and see what is available to us.

Consider this. The Lampstand is a picture of our lives in Christ. Remind yourself of this daily.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overwhelm it.  John 1:1-5
