Names in Hebrew are chosen with great care. Parents believe that the name they choose points to the destiny of the child’s life, their character and their purpose. God also was particular in declaring the names of His Son.
Isaiah 9:6 is a bold declaration and I’ve dug into each name to discover it’s treasure. Hope you will join me over these next couple of weeks and join in the celebration of our Savior.
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Let’s begin with Child. Sounds plain enough. We all know what a child is, don’t we?
Let’s see. The word ‘CHILD’ is #3206 in Strong’s Concordance
A masculine noun referring to a child, a young man. It is commonly used to refer to a male child.
And it looks like this:
Reading from right to left that is a Yod, Lamed, and Dallet.
Yod 10 = the outcome, the completion of something. Means: Hand, right arm, power, right hand of God’s power, a deed done, to work, to cover, allow, hollow, open hand.
Lamed 30 = Blood of Messiah, Dedication to a task. Means: Staff, goad or stick, to teach or instruct, authority, to control, urge forward, a tongue.
Dallet 4=Earth or creation. Means: door, gate, impoverished man, to come from
Thus in this first name, ‘CHILD,’ we can see (Yod) that God completed something with His Right Hand. The ‘right’ hand or arm in scriptures refer to supernatural strength.
God opened His hand (Yod) and brought forth One Dedicated (Lamed) to Teaching and Instructing with Authority. One who would Urge us Forward with the words He spoke.
This ‘CHILD’ would be a Door (Dallet) for all the Earth to come to God.
Hundreds of years later, Jesus declared in John 10:7-10
Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
The ‘CHILD’ we celebrate today, was marked with great destiny that touches every human born to this earth. Yet, even today, 2000 plus years later, there are many who have never heard His name. Let’s live to make Him known.
Now, let’s look at the word or name ‘SON’ seems generic enough, a word we can all understand, right? Well when we stop to consider it is God’s Son we are talking about, look at what the letters mean.
The word SON is #1121 in Strong’s concordance and the primary root word is #1129. The meanings of the word are: #1121–a son (as a builder of the family name)., in the widest sense (of literal and figurative relationship, including grandson, subject, nation, quality or condition. etc.
And #1129 (Primary Root) A verb meaning to build, build up, rebuild, construct. The word is used literally to describe the construction of many things. The main areas of its use are: to build a city (Gen. 11:4), house (Gen. 33:17). It describes the construction of the temple of the Lord on the earth (I Kings 3:1; 5:18; 6:2; Psalms 78:69), as well as Jerusalem (Psalms 147:2). It means to build fortified cities (2 Chron. 11:5), to fortify (1 Kings 15:22; 16:24). It has the sense of rebuilding something (Joshua 6:26; Amos 9:14).
Let’s see what it looks like in Hebrew:
1121 ben (bane); from OT:1129
1129 banah:(This is the primary root and the one we will take a look at.)
Bet 2 = Divide or division. Meaning: House, family; God’s word, God’s dwelling place
Nun 50= Restoration, Holy Spirit, Jubilee. Meaning: Life or action
Hey 5= Grace. Meaning: Revelation-5 is the number of Torah, Behold, Give Attention (if it comes at the end of a word, the revelation or what we need to behold is found in the letter just before it.)
Thus here are the treasures found in the word ‘SON’ as applied to the Son of God:
God gave us His Son, One who would bring a Division to create God’s Family, His
Dwelling Place (BET). He would build, rebuild, or construct God’s temple here on earth.. In that house or temple He would bring (NUN) Restoration, the Holy Spirit, Jubilee, and Life. He would demonstrate Grace(HEY) the power to accomplish God’s will, bringing Revelation (HEY)pointing us back to Give Attention to God’s Word.
What an assignment for this Son of God.
John 1:1-5 says: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 3:35-36 says: The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. 36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
Hebrews 3:1-6 says: Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus, 2 who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house. 3 For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house. 4 For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God. 5 And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward, 6 but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.
And finally, John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Let’s celebrate the Child today, the Son of God, who grew to be the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
